3 DAY TREK

Today we started a three day cattle drive on our north range.  Dave started out the day by flying and spotting the cows.  There are a lot of hills and places for cows to hide.

A lot of wide open space..

Dave let me bring his dog, Lucy, for help. She was great help.

I was having difficulty with my cows staying in a bunch, they were frustrating me.

Half of my herd wanted to go one way and the other half the other way. "Just follow them across the bench",, haha, sounded easy at the time.

Finally help. Dave landed the plane and came with a horse. We had 5 of us riding, but we had a lot of ground to cover and uncooperative cows.

They have a bunch of cows clear down there too. It seemed like we would never get anywhere and with 30 miles to go it just seemed like too much.

Clay got his cows out of the hills and joined us. The cows really had other ideas of what they wanted to do today. Did I mention they were not too cooperative?
The way was rocky, Dave led his horse for a while to give him a little relief.  Clay carried his dog who was tired from working so hard.

Finally the nincompoops got the idea and lined out.

At the end of today's trail was a narrow bridge over a cement ditch that the cows had to cross.  A slow process for 370 cows one at a time.

That was the first leg of our journey.  Stay tuned to find out how it turns out.

Very interesting Tana. My current career has me sitting in front of a computer all day and I long for the open spaces again, of course if you recall my horsemanship skills are less than adequate to help with the cattle drives. keep these blogs Tana You do a great job.

I too remember Dans ride on Shorty, was the craziest thing I ever saw, Dan always provided such good entertainment, will always be part of our famdamily!
Cattle drive looked very tough, lots of miles with cattle that don't want to go, must have been so pooped all of you, hope the rest of the journey goes better! Love this blog, it is such an adventure!
