It's been a tough winter. We headed out to gather our North herd and move them onto the next pasture. The snow got deep this winter and then it melted creating a lot of mud. Getting to all the cows has been hard. It was good to get them all gathered and to look them over good.
We all split up to look for the cows. Many had gone pretty high into the hills, chasing what was left of the snow for a drink. They also were enjoying the bits of green grass poking through.
Dave and I went up Horse Canyon.
You may want to look back at previous posts about Horse Canyon water. The guys worked really hard on the pipeline that feeds the troughs on the bench below here. Well, needless to say, it didn't work.

We found some cows. Actually they found us. There is a lone horse that lives out in those hills. It chased the cows out of the canyon right toward us. There was at least one straggler. If the horse is going to help, it should at least get ALL of the cows. I tried to get a picture of the horse, but it was too fast and I was too slow.
The wash after the flooding the fall before last.
I'm always treasure hunting.
Where the snow is on the hill was the fire area a couple years ago.
Oh, and those are cows up there that I had to ride back up to get. I was just clear up there, yeesh.

I finally got my cows to the troughs where we were gathering to. Look closely, that horse is there trying to "help" again.
The cows were pretty happy to see the water. Some of them have been on only snow for quite a while now. But they weren't as thirsty as I thought they would be. The snow must have been doing the trick.
The other riders started arriving with their cows.
Some of these cows looked pretty thirsty.
It was hard to believe it was dusty.
Clay, his horse and his dog.
It was a nice and fairly warm day. Hard to complain.
