We'll be weaning soon so it's time to get the feed lot ready for the calves. One of the jobs is cleaning all the water troughs. And they are icky. I was lucky enough to get to do this job this year. First I had to learn how to siphon the water out of the trough.
It took me a few tries to get the hang of it. See how green and icky the water is? I stirred it around with the shovel to stir up the ick on the bottom and suck as much out as possible, then I had to bale out the rest with a bucket.
There are several troughs to clean.
A lot of pens
From green and icky....
To fresh and clean.
I had help in one pen. He will be happy to have fresh water.
It was a dirty job, but it's important to give the calves fresh, clean water when we wean so they stay healthy. They should always have fresh, clean water.
