It's been about a year since I started my blog. Since then we have gone full circle. I started with blogs about Preg checking and weaning and here we are again.
Blogging about the same things may be a bit repetitive, but that is the way ranching is. Each year the same jobs have to be done. But with each job there may be unexpected twist.
This week the preg checking began. We started by corralling the cows the afternoon before we planned to preg check.
In this herd we had a couple of trespassers that we needed to sort out of our herd. This ended up being quite a circus.

First it was the matter of a couple of sheep. Have you ever tried to herd two sheep?? It wasn't as easy at it sounds.
Cowboy Randy decided the only thing to do was to rope it.
You would think being the herd animals that sheep are one would stick with the other. Nope! The little bugger would dart out from under us all every time. So Cowboy Kyle had to rope the second one as well.
It seemed like Randy got his sheep pretty well broke to lead. I teased him calling him a "Sheep Cowboy". He didn't like that very much.
Next up was a long horned bull. YIKES!

You can tell by the ears on my horse she wasn't too sure about this creature. I felt the same way.
Of course the dang thing jumped the fence and ended up in the pasture. The cowboys chased and chased it. I wasn't too sure I wanted to participate in this chasing so I took pictures. Too bad I didn't have my new camera with the zoom lens.
They got him headed the right way, but then he jumped another fence and was out again. And the chase was back on.
Finally they got him back with the cows. But the problem of getting him into a corral and into a trailer still remained.
Great, step two successful. In the corral. Next loading....
Yes, I am on the outside of the fence.
It took a few tries but finally the ornery bull was in the trailer and I must say, not happy.
Good thing Dave has good cowboys. I am quite inferior to them when the going gets tough.

The next morning the preg checking was underway.
I love the morning light.
Here is Cowboy Clay loading the cows into the chute. Then the vet checked them, we gave them their shots if they were pregnant and they were sent out to the pasture.
The cows that weren't pregnant were put on a truck to take back to Baker and eventually will be sold.
I played with my good camera while they loaded the truck.
Wrangler commercial.. haha
The cowboys never know where I will have my camera. I am sure they get a bit irritated with me. But o'well we are on to the next series of blogs.. I hope they will all continue to be such great sports.
This is Dave's young horse, Goucho. They have become such a great team. You'll see much more of them this year. Hope you'll all continue reading.
