FEEDING 101

Last week I went with my niece so she could teach me how to feed the heifers.  I don't think I was the best student.  She made it all look so easy.  But loading those big bales is actually quite tricky.
She just hopped up on that big loader and went to work.

She showed me how to carefully and properly load the bales onto this feed wagon.  I was sure I couldn't do it well so I just watched.

The wagon has chains on it which when turned on will feed the hay off the back.  But if the bales aren't loaded correctly  they will mess up the chains and then it won't work.

She is so good at operating the machinery.  I was impressed and a little intimidated.

We drove out to the heifers.  It was a beautiful evening.

She finished pulling off the twine. Clearly I was no help.

Then we climbed aboard and she went to feeding.

They were all happy to get their dinner.

I am pretty sure I failed my first lesson.  I will need to practice when no one is watching. I wouldn't want to embarrass myself.  It is amazing what all of these ranch kids can do and at such a young age.

Ranch kids have a great work ethic. Will always be well employed.
Good post.

Ranch kids and farm kids all learn so much and can do so much and never get credit for it. Amazing watching her with that machinery and one must always be very careful, and not hurry! Just remeber someone taught her, so you too can learn, but be careful, machines can be so handy but also very dangerous!
