Monday morning and I started the day off with a drive up the hill to a neighbor's house to get some chickens. I had to stop and take a picture of the beautiful sky.
Finally I am in the chicken business. They are so pretty. Now if they would lay some eggs.
This is Elmer. He is a beauty. This is Charlotte. He was supposed to be a she. I probably won't get many eggs from him..
After I got the chickens settled in their new home I rode with Dave up the mountain to check on water for the cows and bring home the water truck.
We summer a small bunch of our cows on the mountain. The rest of our cows are in the valley on irrigated meadows for the summer. The mountain heard requires us to haul water to them into various places on the mountain. We use a water truck and portable tubs, which we move frequently so the cows will move to different areas and not over graze any plants. The roads aren't always the best to drive on. It requires some skill in these big trucks.
The rains we have had this summer really make the plants and trees look healthy, And wild flowers this time of year are not too common. The pine trees are also loaded with pine nuts. Dave's Grandma Betty, would tell you that meant we were going to have a hard winter. I really hope she's wrong about that.
The water truck is filled by pumping water out of this small pond through this long hose.
You'll notice KC the Corgi likes to go for a swim while the truck loads.

Cowboy Clay and Cowboy Randy had a few calves escape in the feed yard. They rounded them up an returned them to their pens.
And all this was before lunch...

One of our jobs after lunch was to corral the heifers. Tomorrow the vet will come and we will preg check them and also vaccinate them again.
It was a beautiful afternoon. The skies today have been spectacular.
Clay's girlfriend, Ashley, was even able to help out. And to top off this Monday, my chickens laid their first egg..
