The weather was predicted to be warm this week.  Well I say fire that weather person!  Cold air has settled into our valley causing an inversion.

Cowboys don't get the luxury of calling off due to bad weather.

As the calves get a little older and are able to travel a little bit, we move them and their moms to another pasture.

You can see that the ground conditions were less than perfect.  It was quite icy and slick.

The frost from the fog was pretty.

The fog lifted and it got up to about 30 degrees.  A real heat wave.

The fog was today.  A few days ago we did have some sunshine.

Moving the little calves is slow and takes some patience.

They don't always choose the right trail.  OOPS

Sometimes they need a little help.

We are lucky to have saved as many calves as we did in the terrible weather that we've had. But as the snow slowly melts we are finding more and more loss.

But to leave you on a good note here is one of the cute survivors.  We have done all that we could for these babies and I wish we hadn't lost any.  Losing them doesn't get any easier.

I cant help but to cry for the lost babies, so darn sad! I know some years can be like this but really tears at my heart, I will keep up with my prayers for things to go better. Your pictures are so honest and tell the true story, life on the ranch can be very hard, so glad you are there and doing all you can, that is all anyone can do.

Hi, I found you!!! I have been going to Shepherd Eye Center here in Vegas. I have overheard your daughter talking about going home for Thanksgiving to Baker. I'm thinking ick Baker Ca? Why would anyone want to live there? When she came in I asked her and she said no, Nevada not California. She told me about your ranch and since then I've asked about you every time I've been in there.

She told me about your calves, I'm so sorry and finding more once the storm passed. Broke my heart.

She gave me your website and I had to look into it.

Great pictures. I lived in Big Bear for over 10 years, and have had livestock, hated the water freezing over and having to take a baseball bat to break it up.

Great pics and look forward to learning more about you and your ranch.
