WINTER RANGE

Today we took the first of our herds out to their winter range.  We gathered them from the meadow and headed up the bench for the hills.  Those hills way in the background.
Sometimes a young horse needs a little leading to help with the training.  That is what Clay is doing here.

We went up through the hills and through some trees and down the other side.
The cows were counted going through a gate.
We headed down the bench and across the valley.
If you look closely in the above pictures you can see a hard pan, (flat area of dirt),clear across the valley. That is where we were going.

Later in the afternoon Clay and I switched horses and he took the camera for a while.
Finally after several miles, several hours and a lot of dust, we made it.

Loved the moving cattle pics, know well the dust and the long ride but still miss it, great to read your notes and see the pics, wonderful. Also enjoyed the pics of all the cowgirls, and yes they are so needed, sometimes do not get the notice they should. I say way to go all cowgirls and yes the cowboys would be lost without you.
